The Scented Kitchen: A Rustic Apple Galette & the Fragrance of Fall

The last week or so, we’ve spent much more time inside than normal thanks to the extreme heat. Right now, it’s 97° with a “feels like” temperature of 100°! Nobody wants to be outside in these brutal conditions. 

It actually reminds me a little of being snowed in—just at the opposite end of the thermometer. Either way, it makes us want to stay home, bake something good, eat, and maybe take a nap. 

I also don’t particularly enjoy grocery shopping when it’s this hot, so when I get the urge to bake, I start by looking around to see what I already have on hand. 

This time, I had apples. I had dough. And I had everything I needed for a simple rustic apple galette.

This Rustic Apple Galette is exactly that kind of dessert. 

It calls for refrigerated pizza dough, but if you happen to have crescent rolls in the refrigerator instead, simply roll and press them together to make your crust. And, of course, if you have a favorite homemade pastry dough, that would be wonderful too.
